My evening beauty routine

My evening beauty routine is one of my favorite moments of the day, because I get this wonderful feeling – that I’ve done everything that I needed to do, and that I can finally relax! It’s such a pleasure to be at home with my kids, and to know that there’s nowhere I need to go.

I like to take care of my skin at night. There are a few steps that I do every night. No matter how late I get home, I always take the time to clean off my skin and prepare it for the next day… otherwise I feel really unsettled!

Step 1: cleansing. I love washing the day off! Maybe it’s because I live in New York City and there’s so much grime… haha!!! I’m not sure. But I definitely love taking a great shower at the end of the day, and I take especially good care of my face, so that all traces of makeup, dust and pollution are completely removed before the next step!

Here are a few of my favorite cleansers (I use the same cleanser at night and in the morning):

After cleaning my skin, I like to use a water spritz to tighten the pores. I think that’s a French thing – but frankly after a hot shower, no matter how gentle the cleanser, I feel that my skin needs to be tightened and settled with some cold water. These waters have special minerals that keep the skin healthy. And it feels great! The Avene is the one I used for many many years before switching to the Olivela, and the Caudalie one is the one I use when I travel.

Then, if I have time (about twice a week), I use a mask. I alternate between different kinds of masks. In the winter, I tend to go for hydrating masks, but I also love clarifying masks and detoxifying masks and brightening masks and miracle masks! Honestly – I love all masks and I just feel that it’s a nice way to take care of myself without spending the kind of money that I would spend, if I were to get a facial at the spa. I tend to like masks that come in little pots. The Lancome ones are absolutely amazing!

While the mask is drying, I usually take care of my nails. I hydrate my hands, I apply a special cuticle oil, and then (after cleaning my nails off with nail polish remover), I put on a coat of nail hardener. Then I rinse off the mask.

After the mask (or after the spritz, if I skipped the mask), I apply my eye cream. I don’t wear eye cream during the day, but I wear it every night. I think that night-time is a great time for the cream to really penetrate and do its work. My favorite one right now is the Sublimage by Chanel.

Then I put on my night cream! I am a big fan of decadent, wonderful night creams. I have three that I use on a rotational basis, and I just love love how my skin feels when I wake up the next day! Right now I really love the Capture Totale by Christian Dior – it feels so decadent, and not a bad price at all!

… and that’s it! I’m ready for my kids’ bedtime stories… seriously… the best time of the day! What’s your night-time beauty routine? Share it in the comments below!
